Cereal Partners UK
Welfare Facilities Refurbishment
Design & Build . Refurbishment & Fit-out . Factories . Welfare Facilities
Cereal Partners is an international joint venture between General Mills and Nestlé, with the sole purpose of producing some of the most well-known cereal brands. This particular project was phase 1 of a 2 part factory refurbishment project. This phase involved the construction of a link building between the two main production plants and refurbishment of three existing welfare facilities. The link building was a raft foundation with a ring beam, steelwork and insulated cladding panels, client appointed rapid rise forklift doors, dock leveller, resin floors, handrailing systems. The welfare facilities were fully stripped out and refitted with toilets, basins, showers and locker rooms.
Challenges and Solutions
The immediate challenge with this project was that we were working in a fully operational food production facility. To ensure as little disruption as possible, we held weekly meetings with the client to discuss the logistics of deliveries and the removal of waste through the live food production areas. As always, we upheld the strictest health and safety measures throughout our duration on site, with all operatives adhering to additional PPE measures.
The second issue we faced was the tight timescales, as facilities could only be out of use for a maximum of 8 weeks. Well organised planning, critical path analysis, weekend and evening work, all helped to accelerate programme dates so that we were able to finish the project on time.
After removing the existing facilities, it soon became apparent that the existing drainage network was in a poor condition, resulting in the need for additional drainage repair work. Thankfully, this did not take long to rectify and was able to be completed within our agreed budget.
The project was completed both on time and within budget, despite additional drainage repairs. The client was very pleased with both the design and practical functionality of the welfare facilities and link building, as works start on phase 2.
“Trustland managed this project both effectively and efficiently to provide a top-quality end product. They worked around our active site and you wouldn’t have even known they were there. They kept a fluid design with a fast turn-around of revised drawings, reacting to change in a professional, adaptive manner.”
