Design & Build . Special Projects . Civil Engineering . Storage Solutions
Our client for this project was Halewood International; a UK based international distiller and distributor of premium artisanal spirits. They were in the process of relocation from their Huyton site to Chorley in Lancashire. As part of the preparation, they had identified an area that they wanted to utilise fully to store additional materials. The area had no direct access so we installed a structural steel frame, a new roller shutter and new rapid roller into the existing fabric of the building to provide FLT access and egress to the new storage area with a concrete ramp. As part of this initial work, we also installed temporary timber doors to ensure that the building was secure of an evening, due to the high-value of stock kept inside.
Challenges and Solutions
All work needed to be done whilst the warehouse was operational, requiring careful coordination with the client’s logistics team to avoid disruption to their supply chain and production.
The biggest challenge overall, however, was the time constraints. We were asked to undertake the project at very short notice (less than two days), but thankfully we were able to mobilise our supply chain quickly and efficiently to accommodate. The final part of the project was to install the new roller shutter security door and the rapid roll door. This part of the job was time critical as the security of the warehouse was paramount in the clients’ thoughts, but both doors were installed inside one week without incident.
We were also working with multiple contractors who all had different requirements and timescales. To ensure that everything ran smoothly and all parties were aware of the site progress, we held regular coordination meetings and morning briefings.
The project was completed within budget and with no surplus material produced. We had installed temporary timber doors for the client, but the doors were utilised elsewhere on site once we had installed the permanent solution. Thankfully the site was also incident and accident-free and the client was extremely pleased with the final product.
