Liverpool Philharmonic Hall
Passive Fire Protection
Passive Fire Protection . Fire Door Installation . Fire Door Maintenance
The Liverpool Philharmonic Hall is a famous Grade II concert hall mentioned in the National Heritage List for England. It is the heart of Liverpool city arts scene and we are immensely proud to be a part of keeping it safe for future generations to enjoy.
As BM TRADA accredited fire door installers and maintainers, we completed a full survey on all the doors on the fire compartment walls to provide a quote for bringing the doors and frames up to BM TRADA standards. Our findings showed that none of the door frames had been fire stopped to the surrounding substrate. The doors required new fire rated ironmongery and the correct intumescent strips. Re-lipping was needed to achieve the safest spacing between the door, the frame and the floor. And we also needed to fit new doors and frames where doors had been removed or irreparably damaged. After receiving the full report, they accepted our quote and we started on making the appropriate changes.
Challenges and Solutions
Throughout our work, the hall was still operational for band rehearsals. To ensure minimum disruption, we collaborated with our client to create a schedule of restricted dates and times to avoid. To prevent dust and reduce noise, we also decided not to work on some of the doors in situ. Instead, we removed the doors and took them to the basement to complete the work in a more suitable environment.
The project was completed on time and within budget, with no incidents to report. We received nothing but praise for carrying out the work without disruption, whilst keeping all areas clean and tidy at all times. Despite aiming to have no excess materials, we did have a few intumescent strips leftover. To ensure nothing went to waste, we got permission from the client to take the strips back into our stock for use in our internal training facility.
