In addition to our Claire House fundraising and local primary school support, we are proud to also be sponsoring our friend Steve McHugh for his marathon run, swim and cycle from London to Paris. Steve is bravely taking on an 87-mile run from Marble Arch to Dover, an epic swim across the channel and a 181-mile cycle from Calais to the Arch de Triomphe in a challenge known as the Arch to Arc.
Steve is taking part in this impressive challenge on the 15th of July to raise money and awareness of the Paul Lavelle Foundation; a cause close to both Steve’s heart and ours. The Foundation has been built in honour of Paul Lavelle, a local man from the Wirral, who sadly lost his life at the hands of his girlfriend in a cruel and tragic case of domestic violence. The charity was established by Pauls friends and family and strives to eradicate the stigma involved with males speaking out about domestic abuse and mental health and wellbeing concerns in general. They run a weekly drop-in hub and have dedicated telephone support for advocacy, advice, and referrals. In addition to this and their fundraising/awareness activities, they also host community activity groups across the Wirral, that create a safe space for men to speak out and get advice from new friends whilst cycling, running, swimming, or walking.
We will be cheering Steve on all the way and hope he has a great time (even if only in retrospect!) Good luck Steve – You can do it!
